David Cook’s team does it again at D.C.’s Race for Hope

David Cook will release a new single, "The Last Goodbye," next week.David Cook and his did it again today at the 2011 Race of Hope in Washington, D.C.

Before the race began, the David Cook Team for a Cure was pronounced the top fundraiser for the event for the third year in a row.

Including David’s Friday night Concert for Hope, the team raised more than $160,000 toward the event’s goal of raising $2.3 million to fight brain cancer and provide services to families affected by the disease.

Without the concert, David’s Team for a Cure had pledged more than $115,500 as of this afternoon, and there was still time to donate.

In second place with more than $107,000 raised was Cassidy Turley, a Baltimore-based commercial real estate services firm.

“Such an amazing day!” David tweeted a couple of hours ago. “Thanks to everyone who came out and/or donated.”

There’s a handy link on his website to the Race for Hope site.

The counter there indicates the event is still just a little shy of its $2.3 million goal.

Meanwhile, here’s David being introduced, then talking about the event before the 5K began.

Great to see publicity for a celeb doing good works rather than for bad behavior.

David is such a great humanitarian. I know this particular cause is very close to his heart and he puts everything he’s got into it. So proud to be a David Cook fan!

The speach was actually after the race, as part of the awards ceremony. Wonderful event, wonderful day.
