Bucky Covington performed in York County on Sunday.
And where a former Idol contestant goes, lots of Idol fans follow.
So I figured it would be a great place to get fans’ perspective on the new American Idol judging panel, made up of Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.
Here’s what some Idol fans had to say …
Pamela Speiser, 19, of Philly: “The new judges are amazing. Nicki used to be my idol. She seemed different from all the other rappers. She just seemed like she’d be fun to be around.
Heather Speiser, 20, York: “I like that Keith Urban is a judge. He’s my favorite country singer, and I’m a huge country music fan. I don’t really like seeing Nicki (Minaj) as a judge. But I do like Mariah Carey.”
Alicia Kaufmann, 17, Strinestown: “I’m upset about it. I love Keith Urban as a singer. Having him do judging? I don’t know. I think he should stick to singing. I’m not into Nicki either. I got attached to Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez and now they’re changing already.”
Julie Meyers, 50, Windsor: “Everybody likes Keith Urban. He’s down to earth. He’s friendly. And he’s hot. I think both (Nicki and Mariah) have the experience to do it. Mariah seems very personable. Between Mariah Carey and Keith Urban they have two likeable personalities.”
Chelsea Snyder, 19, York: “Except for Randy being back, I’m not happy with it. I’m not a fan of Nicki Minaj or Mariah Carey at all. I think Mariah Carey is very talented. Nicki Minaj is not talented at all, and I don’t think they’ll mesh very well as judges. I loved Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. That was my favorite judging panel.”
Tiffany E. Kifer, 16, Manchester: “I don’t care for Nicki Minaj. I just don’t like her music. I’m more into country.”
Darlene Overlander, 53: “I won’t watch anymore. It went downhill with Nicki Minaj. I don’t like her songs. I don’t like her language. I don’t think she should be judging anything.”
Jasmine Collins, 16, York: “I think it’s just a joke nowadays. Nicki Minaj? I know a lot of girls my age like her. I don’t like her image at all.”
Karri Nolan, New York: “I like Mariah Carey. I’m not a big fan of Nicki Minaj. I love Keith Urban. I’ll watch it and see how it is. I really liked Steven Tyler a lot. I thought J-Lo was good, too. I was kind of sad to see them go.”
Cathy Anne Credendino, New York: “I really don’t like Nicki Minaj’s music or her crassness. I believe Mariah Carey is extremely talented, and I think Keith Urban will be an excellent addition.”
There you have it. The Nicki choice seems to be stirring people up.
