That’s 15 straight singles to hit number one or number two on the country singles chart.
A week ago, I was wondering whether she could accomplish the feat because “Blown Away” was stuck at number three on Billboard’s country singles chart behind a pair of Taylor Swift tunes.
And Billboard just changed its methodology for determining positions on the chart, taking streaming and downloads into account as well as airplay on country radio.
But “Blown Away” nudged past Taylor’s “Red” anyway and moved up to number two on this week’s charts.
Now the only question is whether the second single from the album by the same name will reach number one (Taylor’s “We Are Never Ever Gonna Get Back Together” now holds the spot).
Or whether it will become the fourth of those 15 straight hits to peak at number two. To date, only “Mama’s Song,” “I Told You So” and “Don’t Forget About Me” failed to hit number one for Idol’s Season 4 winner.
“Blown Away” the song also advanced on three other charts this week — Hot 100, radio songs and digital songs — and the album is still number two on the country album chart behind only Little Big Town’s “Tornado.”
