Rocky Horror Glee Show
Glee is going to be so awesome next week!
In anticipation of the “Rocky Horror Glee Show,” I’ve been listening to the music from the episode (which by the way, is on Youtube now, so go listen) for the past few days, and I even watched the original movie, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” on Netflix.
If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly suggest you see it because not only is it totally hilarious, it gives you a lot of background knowledge for the upcoming episode.
I went online to read about the episode, and found out who is playing which character from the movie (it’s going to be in the form of a school musical, so characters will be playing actual roles). Here’s a quick little list:
Frank N. Furter – Mercedes (what?!)
Janet – Rachel
Brad – Finn
Riff Raff – Kurt
Columbia – Brittany/Tina
Magenta – Quinn/Santana
Eddie – Mike (and also Carl? I’m not quite sure about this)
Dr. Scott/The Criminologist – Artie
Rocky – Sam
I think everyone’s pretty well-cast, with the exception of Mercedes as Frank N. Furter. That’s probably the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard, and I think it will be really… strange. I love Glee, but I think the producers really screwed up on that one. Also, having multiple people cast as one character is also kind of weird. But I guess we’ll see how that works out.
In addition to the list of characters, there’s also a list of the songs being performed:
“Science Fiction Double Feature”
“Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me”
“Over at the Frankenstein Place”
“The Time Warp”
I’ve listened to all of those, and they’re all pretty much great, especially “Science Fiction Double Feature” and “Dammit Janet.” I feel like they really did those songs justice. Also, “Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch Me” was really good, and it was performed by Jayma Mays (Emma), who we’ve never really heard that often. However, I found “Sweet Transvestite” to be really, really weird. Obviously it was sung well, but it’s just so strange …
Oh, there is one other issue with the songs that I feel like I should mention: the lyric changes. They’ve changed some lyrics, which, judging by a lot of the comments on Youtube, has made a lot of people pretty angry. I agree that’s kind of stupid (changing “transsexual” to “sensational” was especially dumb, seeing as one of the main characters is, well … a transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania), but I guess it can’t be helped. They need to keep up ratings, and if that means making a few minor changes to lyrics, so be it. Oh well.
I am 100 percent positive that “Rocky Horror Glee Show” is going to be absolutely fantastic. It sucks not having Glee this week, but I think this huge episode is going to make up for it. I feel like such a fangirl right now, but I don’t care, this is just so cool!
Make sure you watch Glee next week. Tuesday night at 8 p.m., on Fox 43. You will be so sorry if you miss it. In the meantime, go listen to the music on Youtube, and watch the movie!
P.S. Ryan Murphy was recently approached by Fox about directing a remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show. He hasn’t said whether or not he’ll accept the offer, but if he does I’ll definitely be seeing that, too.
