The fifth grade Envirothon teams from Dillsburg and Wellsville elementary schools recently toured the first LEED registered commercial retail project in York County, the First Capital Federal Credit Union.

The tour was conducted by the CEO, Dennis Flickinger. In the parking lot students saw bike racks and special parking for energy efficient cars. In the basement they observed how the rain water capture system filters and reuses the water for flush toilets and irrigates the landscape. The lobby had special “solartube” skylights as well as wall coverings made from sunflower and wheat stocks. This tour helped the students learn about alternative energy, which worked in well with the current events part of Envirothon.
