Rocks and the River hike and program for kids
The parks and recreation departments of York and Lancaster counties will team up for a Rocks and the River hike, 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at Chickies Rock County Park.
The one-mile hike, recommended for children ages 8 and older, will begin at the Breezyview Overlook just off of Route 441, north of Columbia. Participants will walk down a steep hill to the Susquehanna Heritage Trail.
Park representatives will discuss the Susquehanna River, the area’s geology and the reason why Chickies Rock is a favorite among geologists. The 19th century iron industry also will be highlighted along the way.
Participants will be van-pooled back to Breezyview Overlook at the end of the program.
