Art show, book signing part of Outdoor Fest
The York County Conservation District will have a Student Wildlife Art Show and Book Signing to celebrate the release of its recent book, “PA Wildlife Journal: Birds & Mammals,” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Shank’s Mare along the Susquehanna River.
The show will feature artwork from the 300-page wildlife reference book. Students from across York County and the state contributed hundreds of pieces of artwork for the large, colorful book, which focuses on the fabulous birds and mammals of Pennsylvania. The PA Wildlife Journal is being sold by the district as a fundraiser for educational programs like the Envirothon. To date, more than 500 books have been sold. Books will be available for sale at the Art Show. In addition, fine artwork and gift cards by principal book artist Millicent Neill Decker will also be for sale. During the afternoon, live birds of prey will be on hand for close-up views and educational talks.
The event is part of Shank’s Mare’s annual Outdoor Fest, which will also feature food and ice cream vendors, other artists, musicians, kayak rentals and more throughout the day.
For more information, call the district at (717) 840-7430 or Shank’s Mare at (717) 252-1616.
