Shank’s Mare and several local non-profit organizations have become partners for the holidays through Give and Give Back.

Held four Saturdays in December, Shank’s Mare, 2092 Long Level Road, Wrightsville, will host presentations by local organizations. Visitors are welcome to drop in at any time during these informal sessions. Shank’s Mare will donate 5 percent of the day’s purchases to that organization.

The schedule is:

Dec. 1: Mitzi Eaton, Birds of Prey, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Specializing in birds of prey only, Mitzi Eaton is licensed by the state to care for and re-introduce injured birds back to the wild. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of Mitzi’s “teaching” birds and learn about her commitment to these unique animals.

Dec. 8: Pictures with Santa, Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Kids, adults, and even dogs are welcome to have their pictures taken with Santa in his specially outfitted river kayak (we promise you won’t get wet)! At the same time, learn about the efforts of the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper as a watchdog of our precious waterway. Photos will be emailed.

Dec. 15: Indian Steps Museum, York County Conservation Society, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Ever see a two-headed calf or handle a 10,000-year-old hammer or arrowhead? You can do both as we welcome the staff of Indian Steps Museum. Artifacts will be on display and museum staff can answer all your questions.

Dec. 22: A Winter Salad Garden, Horn Farm Center, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Learn how growing greens indoors not only perks up your winter salads, but it can also be a conversation starter with your child or grandchild about where our food comes from. Hot mulled cider and snacks will be available as the staff of Horn Farm shares the importance of supporting local farmers or planting your own gardens.
