Chicks hatched at York Suburban elementaries

Thanks to a grant from Kim and Doug George through the York Suburban Education Foundation, all second-grade classrooms at Yorkshire and Valley View elementary schools received a dozen eggs to incubate and watch develop into chicks. The students were responsible for turning the eggs three times a day for 21 days. All classrooms successfully hatched at least eight baby chicks. A local 4-H branch then delivered the chicks to area farms. Pictured are students in Cheryl Johnson's class at Valley View.

Register your York Suburban kindergartner in March

York Suburban School District will register 2013-2014 kindergarten children by appointment only in March.

A pre-registration program for all parents of kindergartners will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the Yorkshire gymnasium and at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Valley View gymnasium. Parents are encouraged to go to the building where their children will attend.

Children who turn 5 before Sept. 1 can register for kindergarten; those who turn 6 before Sept. 1 can register for first grade. Children currently in kindergarten in the district do not have to register for first grade.

Registration dates are:

– March 18-19 for students who will attend Yorkshire Elementary.
– March 20 and 21 for students who will attend Valley View Elementary.

Parents may complete registration materials at the York Suburban School District website at www.yssd.org. Go to the Valley View or Yorkshire link, create an account, complete the registration forms, and schedule an appointment.

If those who are unable to complete the online forms, packets are available. Call to have the forms mailed at 885-1220 for the Valley View office or 885-1230 for the Yorkshire office.

The York Suburban School District will register 2012-2013 kindergarten children by appointment only on March 29 and 30 for Valley View Elementary and April 2 and 3 for Yorkshire Elementary.

Children who turn 5 before Sept. 1 can be registered for kindergarten; those who turn 6 before Sept. 1 can be registered for first grade. Children currently in kindergarten in the district do not have to register for first grade.

A pre-registration program for all parents of the 2012-2013 kindergarten class will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the Valley View and Yorkshire gymnasiums. Parents are encouraged to attend the building where their child will attend.

Parents who are unable to complete the forms online should call Valley View at 885-1220 or Yorkshire at 885-1230. The registration packets will be mailed.
