Letters to President Obama

Students in Mrs. Tina Linburg’s second-grade class at Dover Elementary School (April 29, 2009) wrote letters to President Obama with their opinions of what’s great about our country and their suggestions for making America better.

Dear President Obama,

Hello. My name is Madison. I think you will be a great president. Here are some things I love about America. I love America because we get to be with friends and family. Here is one thing I love about America. We have good soldiers. This is also why I love America. We have money. We also have hospitals. I’m so thankful for food and water. I love cars and we have those in America. I’m so, so glad that we have houses.
Here’s three ways to make America better. I think to make bank robbers stop we need more security. I would get more police to stop crime. I think we should give people that have no homes tree houses. I hope you will read my letter and write back if you can.

Sincerely,
Madison Elyse Wintermyer

Dear President Obama,

Hi! My name is Eric. Here are 3 reasons why I like the U.S.A. America is great because we have a lot of food and water. I think America is good because we have cars. America is super because we have pets and wild animals. I like America because we have stores. I love America because we have good homes.
Here are 3 ways to make America better. Take away alcohol so there will be no more drunk drivers. Give homes to the people that don’t have homes. We need more security because there are a lot of robbers. I think you are going to be a good president.

Sincerely,
Eric Fisher

Dear President Obama,

Hi. My name is Katana. I’m 8 years old. I’m in 2nd grade. I go to Dover Elementary School. I love living in America because we have stores for food and water. We also have schools to learn. I love spending time with friends and family. I’m glad we have hospitals. I’m grateful that we have houses to live in.
Here are 3 ways to make America better. We need to build more houses for the homeless. You should stop drunk driving by no selling alcohol. I think we should have more security in banks, malls, and stores. You are going to be a great president. Please write back.

Sincerely,
Katana Maria Baer

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Clara Emma Keefer. I go to Dover Elementary. Here are 3 reasons I love America. Thank you for food and water. We all love freedom. My family now has a llama, donkey, 3 dogs, 5 cats, fish, and birds. Do you have an animal? I love hospitals because the doctors help the patients. I like TVs because they give funny stuff. I enjoy having good schools and good teachers. I’m good at saving money.
Here are 3 ways to make America better. One way is no smoking. The smoke gets stuck in your lungs. Drunk driving is bad because the drunk person might crash into someone and hurt them. So can you put a law for 3 bottles a day? Can you tell some builders and sewers to make more houses and clothes? Please bring peace to the world. Can you please write back to me?

Sincerely,
Clara Keefer

Dear President Obama,

Congratulations for getting to be the president! I’m Bethanee Kae Graver. Hello! Here’s what’s wonderful about the U.S.A. I love that we have friends and family in America. I am thankful for money so we can buy things we need. I like that we have homes to live in. I’m glad to have teachers to teach us. I am happy to have vehicles. Here are 4 others reasons I love America. I am thankful for the pets we have. I am also glad to have schools to go to. I like that we have clothing to wear. I’m so grateful for the toys that we get to play with. Here are some things we need to stop. We need to stop murdering by teaching more kindness lessons in school. A way to stop drunk driving is by taking away the drunk driver’s licenses. A good solution to bank robbers is to get more security. A good way to get homeless people a home is to make sure everybody has money to buy a home. A nice way to stop war is to make everybody be kind. A good solution to make taxes lower is to make things cheaper. President Obama, I know you’re going to be a great president. Please write back,

Sincerely,
Bethanee Kae Graver

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Tyler. I am 8 years old. Here are some things I love about the U.S.A. One thing I like about America is TV because when you get bored you can watch TV. I like America because you have video games to play with. America is sweet because you get to see the football games. Here are 3 more sentences about America. America is cool because you get to have a pet to play with. I like America because you get to have toys to play with. America is awesome because you have candy to eat. Here are 3 bad things about America. One bad thing about America is high taxes. The war is bad. So you can stop the war. Drunk driving is bad because you could run into somebody on the road. Thank you for making America cool!

Sincerely,
Tyler Missinger

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Stevie. I am 8 years old. Here are some reasons why I love America. Good builders build our nice homes. Money is good because if we wouldn’t have any we couldn’t buy anything. If you do not have a car, then you cannot go anywhere. I think low taxes are really good because you will not get poor. I think this country has really good teachers and schools. I’m glad we have food and water so we will not starve.
Here are ways to make America better. If we still have high taxes, you should make them lower. I think if the war keeps going, kids will not have moms or dads. Stop letting people go to wars. If people get drunk, they will get hurt. Please stop drunk driving. I think you will be a great president. Can you write back to me? I saw you on TV.

Sincerely,
Stevie Hamme

Dear President Obama,

Hi! My name is Shane. I go to Dover Elementary. These are three reasons I love America. Our country is great because we have freedom. We have a good country because we have soldiers. We love America because we have hospitals for people who are hurt and sick. We want to live in America because we have good schools. America is wonderful because we have clothes. America is great because we have TVs. This is a way to make America better. Please stop giving high taxes. Another way to make America better is to get more builders for the homeless people. America also needs more security. I hope you can make our country better. Can you please write back to me?

Sincerely,
Shane Haffner

Dear President Obama,

Hi. My name is Brieanna. Here are some great and wonderful things about America. One of the things I like about America is toys because if you get bored you will have nothing to do inside. TV is so cool in America. That’s why I am writing about it now. I like TV because it is funny. Now I am talking about video games. I like video games because then you will not get bored. Here are three suggestions for America. President Obama, please do not take candy because then we might get diabetes. If we did not have any stories for little kids to hear, they would be sad. So do not take stories away. Can you please not take nature away? If you cut down all the trees, we might die. Here are 3 ways to make America better. Whoever does drunk driving should never drive again. Can you never have wars and bring peace to U.S.A.? Can you pretty please lower taxes? I think you are a nice man and a kind man. I hope your children are okay.

Sincerely,
Brieanna Dae Lantz

Dear President Obama,

Congratulations! Here are a few things I like about America. One thing I like about America is we ave freedom. Something else I like about America is animals. I also like good soldiers. Here are some more reasons I like America. Two things I like about America are my friends and family. Something else I like about America is nature. The last things I like about America are food and water.
Here are 3 things I don’t like about America. There is a problem with homeless people. Here is a way to fix it. Build more homes for less money. High taxes are also bad. Here is a way to fix that. Talk to the bank. The last thing is drunk drivers. Here is a way to fix that. Let people have one beer bottle a day.
I hope you will fix my three things. I think you will be a great president. Please write back.

Sincerely,
Grace Borne

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Paige Nicole Nicholas. Congratulations for getting to be president. Here are some reasons I love America. Our country is great because we have money. Thank you for letting us have money. Another reason America is great is that we have candy. The most popular thing for me is the video games. I also really love that we have stores because they have stuff that can help your country. Here are 3 more reasons I love America. Thank you for letting us have Knoebels. Their rides are so fun because the rides are fast and spinny. They make you wiggle. I also love Hersheypark because they have a lot of fun rides. The fun things are the toys. They let you have fun and they are cool. They are also very, very, very playful things to play with.
Here are some things that we need to stop in America. We need to stop murdering by teaching more kindness lessons in school. Another thing is to stop drunk driving by taking away the drunk driver’s license. Good people don’t do crimes. Those people have to be taught a lesson, too. A bank robber’s lesson is to be put in jail because that’s a good lesson. I think you will be a wonderful president. You’ll make our country feel good. Have a great time in the White House.

Sincerely,
Paige Nicholas

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Kirsten. America is a great place to live. I hope you like America, too. Here are some things that are great about the U.S.A. One thing I like about the U.S.A. is the Star Spangled Banner. Another thing I like is friends and family. The third thing I like is the American flag. Freedom is important because we get to do whatever we want. Animals are good to have here because they make good pets. I like nature because trees make oxygen and the other things make land look beautiful.
Here are three ways to make America better. You need more cops to watch out for drunk driving. I think you should get more builders to build more houses for homeless people. You should have more security to watch out for crime. I think you’re going to be a great president.

Sincerely,
Kirsten Strayer

Dear President Obama,

Good job for being picked to be president. Here are some reasons why I love the U.S.A.! I love video games. Please invent more video games in the U.S.A.! My favorite football team is the Patriots. Could you please make more football teams? Could you please help coaches to coach better? I like family time. If you can, please try to make families get together more. Please do not let anybody throw their pets into the woods. Would you please help people raise more money to get a car?
Here are three more ways to make the U.S.A. better. Would you please help drunk drivers to stop it? I hope you can stop the crime. Will you please stop the bank robbers by putting them in jail? I love America! You’ll be the best president!!!

Sincerely,
Jacob Allen Snelbaker

Dear President Obama,

I think our country is the greatest one yet. Here are two things why I like America. Our country is special because we have hospitals. Stores are important too because if we didn’t have stores, we wouldn’t have furniture. Here are some more reasons why I like America. We have dogs and cats. Do you? Electric is important because if we didn’t have electric we wouldn’t have TVs. I like people who say “think green.” So that’s my 5 reasons. Here are 3 reasons why I don’t like America. I don’t like crimes because if people do crimes, they will get in jail. Drunk driving is bad. If you do that, you’re going to jail for the rest of your life. Sometimes homeless people don’t have anything. So can you fix the 3 problems? I hope you can fix the 3 problems and save our country. Bye.

Sincerely,
Jessica Jacoby

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Nick. I’m 7 years old. Here are some reasons why I love America. There are a lot of video games. Another reason is because there are lots of TVs. Something else I like is that there are toys. Also, I like stores and I really like good builders. Something I like on TV is football. I like the Steelers. Here are some problems in America. There is drunk driving. We should stop selling beer. A bad thing is bank robbers. We should get more police. We should arrest lots of criminals. I think you will be the best president. I saw you on TV.

Sincerely,
Nick Lloyd

Dear President Obama,

I am glad that you are the president!!!! I love candy because it’s good. I like hospitals because they help people stay alive. One more thing that I love about the U.S.A. is good soldiers. Nature is important because it is special. Animals are nice to you, but some are bad like killer whales. One more good thing about the U.S.A. is I like nice houses because I don’t like brown flooring.
Here are the bad things about the U.S.A. A crime is a very bad thing. You can arrest them. I don’t like wars. You can stop them. Homelessness is sad. I’m not one of them. Bye. I have to go. You rock! Hey, do you have a dog?

Sincerely,
Zach Green

Dear President Obama,

Hi, my name is Jesusa Cruz. I go to Dover Elementary. I am happy that you are the next president. Here are 3 reasons why I love the U.S.A. I like freedom because you can do stuff. I’m grateful for hospitals because they help people that are hurt. I’m really happy that we have the kind of soldiers that we have because they really help us a lot. I enjoy having friends and family because they like me a lot. My family loves me a lot. Cars are good because you don’t have to walk. Here are 3 ways to make America better. A good solution for bank robbers is to get more security. I like low taxes because you don’t have to pay that much for groceries. A good way to get homeless people a home is to make sure they have homes. A nice way to stop war is to make everybody be kind. A solution to make taxes lower is to make things cheaper. Another thing to stop drunk driving is by taking alcohol from stores and throwing it away. I am really happy that you are president this year. Can you please write back to me? I hope you turn into a great president.

Sincerely,
Jesusa Cruz

Dear President Obama,

Hi my name is Jack. I am 8 years old. Here are some things I like about America: freedom, TV and candy. I like freedom because certain countries don’t have freedom. TV is important because you can learn something. Candy is good. Here are three more reasons I love America: good schools, cars and go carts. Schools are good because you could learn something really important. Cars are awesome because you don’t have to walk. Go carts are fun because you can do donuts with them.
Now here are three things I do not like about America. I do not like war. Can we just be nice to each other? I do not like stealing. Can we have more cops? I do not like high taxes. Drunk driving is bad. Can we tell the people at the stores not to sell alcohol? No one should be homeless. Thank you for reading my letter.

Sincerely,
Jack Bleich
