The Dover Area High School stadium will be alive with sound Saturday, Oct. 29, as nine area marching bands come together to show their stuff.

The showcase features many of York County’s non-competitive bands and was created seven years ago as a way to give the students a late-season performance opportunity.

Gates open at 5 p.m. The show begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. There is no rain date. In the event of inclement weather, the show will be held in the high school gymnasium.

The schedule includes performances by Hanover, Christian School of York, William Penn, Steelton-Highspire, Northeastern, Kennard-Dale, West York, Central York, Dover, Columbia VFW Band and Full Band Retreat performing “America the Beautiful.”

The show will feature more than 500 performers and is being made possible by the Dover community. For the third consecutive year, Dover Area School District was named one of the top 100 communities for music education in the nation by the National Association of Music Merchandisers.

Greater Dover Dance Theatre, a non-profit pre-professional dance company in residence at Greater Dover Dance Academy, will present the holiday ballet, “Clara’s Dream,” 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at Dover Area High School.

Set to the music of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” the ballet tells the heart-warming story of a poor little girl named Clara and how her dreams are realized through the kindness of others. The role of Clara will be danced by 12-year-old Delaney Litsinger, of Wellsville; the Sugarplum Fairy will be 15-year-old Juliana Peck, of York, and her Cavalier will be 16-year-old Billy Emig, of Dover.
