Lincolnway Chess Club earns honors

Members of the Chess Club at Lincolnway Elementary School, West York Area School District, placed fifth in the Pennsylvania State Chess Championships in March. A total of 825 players participated in the event. A 19-member team from Lincolnway competed in the beginners category. Lincolnway students who placed individually are Jason McSherry, sixth place; Jack Citrone and Augie Citrone, seventh place tie; Jon Speeman and Jimmmy Lambrakopoulos, both eighth place; and Ayden Williams, ninth place.

Ms. Swope earns Outstanding Teacher Award

A West York Area School District teacher was honored at Shippensburg University’s 25th annual Outstanding Teacher Luncheon on Oct. 13.

Jenifer M. Swope, a learning support teacher at Lincolnway Elementary School, was selected as a 2011 Outstanding Teacher and a participant in the Guest Lecturer Program.

Swope coordinates instruction and develops individualized education plans in order to meet the cognitive and behavioral needs of learning support students in resource and inclusion settings.
