Dr. Joan Crouse, coordinator of elementary literacy programs in the Conewago Valley School District, announced the winners in the fourth annual Diversity Summit 2012 logo poster contest are students from New Oxford High School.

The winners are Karla Castillo, first place, Ernesto Garcia, second place, and Jessica Ojeda, third place.

The students won monetary prizes and were recognized at the November meeting of the Conewago Valley School Board.

The New Oxford High School Preschool Program is still accepting applications for 3- and 4-year-olds.

The fall semester runs September through December. The spring semester runs February through May. Hours are 11:40 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3-year-olds and Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 4-year-olds.

Children must turn 3 or 4 by Sept. 1.

To register a child, complete a simple form and pay a non-refundable $50 fee per semester. For more information, call 624-2157, ext. 2004.

Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1 to be eligible for the 4-year-olds class (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays) and 3 by Sept. 1 to be eligible for the 3-year-olds class (Tuesdays, Thursdays). Depending on the availability, classes could be a mixture of ages with separate lessons.

Children are registered on a first come, first served basis, with district residents given first priority. You will receive a letter by June 30 to let you know if your child is registered in the class or on a waiting list.

New Oxford High School will present the musical comedy, “Bye, Bye Birdie!” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, in the Conewago Valley School District auditorium.

The play features a cast and crew of 75 students from grades nine through 12, along with a pit band of 17 musicians and music educators from the area. (Story continues after picture.)

Mrs. Alecia Kraus, Varsity Club advisor, and the New Oxford High School Varsity Club challenged all staff members to send some holiday spirit to the men and women of the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion stationed in Afghanistan by collecting items and filling shoeboxes with food, toiletries, music, games and seasonal items etc. for Operation Shoebox. And they took the challenge, having packed, wrapped and loaded 1063 to be sent to Fort Mead. Pictured, filling shoeboxes for the troops are, clockwise, Breanna Wagaman, Amina Colonia, Lauren Lippy and Emily Hull, all sophomores at New Oxford High School.

The New Oxford High School Marching Band took first place in the Yankee Conference at the Cavalcade of Bands competition, Oct. 23 at Hanover High School.

The Marching Colonials scored a 91.5 and earned the specialty awards for Best Percussion and Best Color Guard in the Yankee Conference as well Best Overall Marching and Best Overall Music.
