Northern Elementary students got a taste of Belize

Northern Elementary students got a taste of Central American culture when Principal Joyce Cal, far right, a native of Belize, organized a celebration of her country’s Independence Day on Sept. 21. Cal treated students to 400 red, white and blue cupcakes organized in the form of Belize’s flag, played traditional music and shared a cultural video.

First-graders rewarded for clothing drive efforts

First-graders in Karen Repetto’s class at Northern Elementary collected the most hats, mittens, and scarves during a school-wide clothing drive in January. Many of the items were used to re-decorate the school’s Christmas tree and Repetto’s class received a hot cocoa party for their efforts. The drive was held as part of the school’s Character Counts program. The 300-plus items collected will be shared with a local charity. Pictured from the winning class are, front row, Madelyn Ward, Ethan Smith and Grace Rudy, middle row, Carter Smith, Jackie Pressel, Meredith Chance, Yvonne Wang, Tayte McNair and Connor McEnany, and back row, Mitchell Lampron and Matthew Jacobs with school nurse Mary Zinn.
