More than 400 Northern Middle School students participated in a culminating seven-hour MiniTHON on March 8 to benefit The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital. The $40,965 raised is nearly double that of last year’s first annual MiniTHON.

Students participated in a talent show, tug-of-war against teachers, gym relays, and dance contests before the final total was revealed in closing ceremonies.

As a reward for all student teams meeting fundraising challenges, a special school-wide assembly will be held March 27, with teachers having beards shaved, getting duct taped to walls, and receiving colored Mohawk hairdos.

The success of the second annual MiniTHON comes on the coattails of Northern High School’s Four Diamonds PolarTHON last month which raised $32,355. The grand total from both schools is $73,320, the highest in the district’s history.
