The polar hunter

The “Little White Fox” story features animals encountering Omnok the Hunter more than once. While it’s not entirely clear, it sounds like he’s an Inuit who is hunting for fur and meat to keep his family warm and fed.

The coloring page at left is based on an old picture of an Inuit hunter from Canada. You can learn more about Canada’s native peoples here.

Enter the St. Patrick’s Day coloring contest

The York Emporium is hosting a coloring contest in conjunction with the York St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and the winners in two age categories will get a spot on the bookstore’s parade float.

Clicking the image will download a PDF of this contest entry!

To enter, just print out and color the image at right and return it to the York Emporium ,343 W. Market St. in downtown York. Alternatively, you can visit the York Dispatch’s office at 205 N. George St. and pick up the entry forms there.

If you print out the coloring page from here, be aware that it’s to be printed on legal-size (8.5 in x 14 in) paper.

Besides the awesome prize of a ride on the parade float, the top winners also get a $25 gift certificate to the store.

The top winners aren’t the only winners either: Just by delivering your entry to the York Emporium, you’ll get a free book from the Emporium’s children’s book section, which includes picture books, chapter books and even some reference books.

Entries are due by March 10, so get coloring!
