York County Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting an Amphibians Fox Story Time with volunteer naturalist Amy Slagel, 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Nixon County Park.

The story time is for childres ages 4-7 and adults to spend together. Participants will enjoy a story and a stroll through the park to look for the marvels of nature.

There is a $5 fee per child. Pre-registration is requested.

Look for signs of spring at Nixon Park
Naturalist Amber Carothers, of York County Parks and Recreation, will lead a Signs of Spring Walk, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Richard M. Nixon County Park.

Stroll along the streams and pond looking for signs of animals stirring after long winter naps, check out the new plant growth and celebrate increased sunlight and warmer temperatures.

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation is presenting a Cub Scout Spring Fun Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Nixon County Park.

Cub Scouts in grades 1 through 3 are invited to explore the outdoors through a naturalist-led spring hike, plant and animal games, a craft and scavenger hunt and a live animal presentation by Hershey’s Zoo America.

Participants must supply their own lunch. A guardian or scout leader must accompany scouts.

York County Department of Parks and Recreation will present a Bee Keeping program from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Richard M. Nixon County Park in Springfield Township.

Beekeeper Morrell Sipe will introduce attendees to the fascinating world of honeybees. Participants will learn how to get started with a hive at home.

The York County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering the Cabin Fever Hike series from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on scheduled Saturdays this winter. All hikes are at Rocky Ridge County Park and will start in the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area. Guides will cover different topics each week.

For Feb. 4, naturalist Amber Carothers will guide attendees along the trail while investigating what animals are doing during the winter. Afterwards, participants will enjoy a fire and hot chocolate in an enclosed pavilion. Meet at Pleasant Pavilion.

On Feb. 11, science teacher Jeff Miller will lead the Winter Scavenger Hike. Participants can find out who has been visiting the park during the winter and what is happening in the woods. Prizes will be awarded. Meet at Ruffed Grouse Pavilion.
