Identify spring birds at Nixon County Park

York County Parks and RecreationThe York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Spring Birds walk from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at Nixon County Park.

Parks naturalist Francis Velazquez will lead participants along trails to identify vireos, phoebes, warblers and tanagers. Bring binoculars and a field guide. A limited number of lending binoculars will be available.

The program is for children ages 10 and up. The program is free with no registration required.

York County Parks and RecreationThe York County Department of Parks and Recreation will conduct Cub Scout Spring Fun Days, 9:30 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Saturday, March 23, and 11:30 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Nixon County Park.

Scouts and their siblings in Grades 1 to 3 are invited to explore Pennsylvania birds through a naturalist-led bird hike, play games, build a bluebird nest box, join a scavenger hunt and visit with live animals from Hershey’s Zoo America.

Participants must supply their own lunch. A guardian or Scout leader must accompany Scouts. Space is limited; pre-registration is required.

Lake Williams nature hike for ages 10 to adult

York County Department of Parks and Recreation will present a Lake Williams Hike for ages 10 to adult, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16, in William H. Kain County Park.

Join Parks Naturalist Kelsey Frey for this five-mile hike. Enjoy the scenery along the lakeshore, observe wildlife, learn how to identify different plant species, and learn the history of the lake. The hike starts at the Nixon County Park Nature Center and has a few hills. Participants should dress for the weather; bring a snack, water and binoculars.

There is no fee, but registration is required.
