Kickoff can’t come fast enough

Posted by on July 5, 2012

We’re past July 4 now, so officially,or unofficially, past the halfway point of summer.

Which means football season is not far off.

For Penn State fans, the opening kickoff could never get here fast enough, but that’s especially true this year.

Nittany Nation needs to be able to focus on the field, and see what Bill O’Brien can come up with.  Certainly, fans are anticipating a more exciting offense.

But, the start of games will give everyone something else to talk about besides the scandal.  And, now, the troubling leaked e-mails that seem to show Joe Paterno was move involved in the decision not to go the authorities than previously thought, or than he himself said while he was still alive.

As the Paterno family spokesman has noted, these e-mail leaks are selective and don’t show the context or the whole picture.

Stilll, they give Paterno supporters pause.

We must hope the investigation will lead to the truth, the full truth, and those who did not do what they were legally bound to will face justice, and those who did not do what they should have will be held to public account.  The victims deserve nothing less.

And, Penn State as an institution, Pennsylvania as a state, and Penn State fans can begin to move beyond this.

No, that first game can’t get here soon enough.
