The York Revolution won’t be the only team with a new skipper in 2013. The Somerset Patriots announced Monday that longtime manager Sparky Lyle will be stepping down to move into a public relations role for the team. Lyle is the winningest manager in Atlantic League history with 1,024 victories and led the Patriots to five championships (2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2009) in 15 seasons. He will not have an on-field input for the Pats.

The 68-year-old former Yankees great will now assume a “manager emeritus” status, where he will be available for autographs and entertainment, but he will not have input into on-field decisions, according to an article from Pats’ beat writer Ryan Dunleavy.

Pitching coach Brett Jodie will be promoted as the team’s new skipper.
